Sound waves are sent through a hand held transducer over the skin above a blood vessel.  The transducer sends and receives the sound waves that are amplified through a microphone. Depending on the blood flow, changes in pitch of the reflected sound are monitored.

It is used to:

• evaluate leg/arm pain, swelling, numbness, or weakness
• evaluate dizziness or loss of vision
• detect blood clots
• detect blocked or narrowed blood vessels
• determine the presence of arterial plaque
