An abdominal arterial doppler study is an ultrasound test that uses reflected sound waves to evaluate the abdominal aorta.  The aorta is the major artery from the heart that supplies the body with blood.  Sound waves are sent through a hand held transducer over the abdomen.  These sound waves are amplified through a microphone and are also converted into images on a computer.

An echocardiogram (echo) is a type of an ultrasound test that uses sound waves to produce an image of the heart.  The sound waves are sent through a hand held transducer and are reflected off the various structures of the heart.  These "echoes" are converted into pictures of the heart that can be seen on a video monitor.
